Benefits of Getting Involved

  • Helps you succeed in college and beyond.
  • Leads to lifelong friendships and networking opportunities.
  • Develops your time-management, leadership, communication and teamwork skills, which are important skills to future employers.

Clubs & Organizations

On average, pro offers over 30 clubs & organizations to our students every year. Clubs and organizations range from The Beacon student newspaper and Writ literary magazine to Phi Theta Kappa national honor society and the Veterans Club. If we don’t have what you’re looking for we’ll work with you to develop it. Our goal is to have a range of offerings so that all our students have a chance to get involved.

The Captain’s House – Home to Our Clubs & Organizations

The Captain’s House is a historic building on our South Portland Campus that originally served as officers’ quarters for Fort Preble and is now dedicated to student use. It houses the Student Senate, Phi Theta Kappa, The Beacon and the Veterans Club. It also has several areas where students can study or meet in small groups, and is home to the Captain’s Cupboard, a student-run food pantry.

Veterans Student Organization

The pro Veterans Club was established to provide support and a forum for those interested in veterans’ issues. Club events include film discussions, guest speakers, community service, field trips, social events and more. Membership is open to any student, staff member or faculty member with an interest in veterans’ issues. For more information, contact the club at

Campus Activities

We offer campus activities throughout the year to bring the pro community together. These events are a great way to get out and enjoy the campus, meet new people and have some fun.

Popular events held every year include:

  • Welcome BBQ – September
  • Winter Carnival – February
  • Spring Fest – May

Student Government

The Student Senate, pro’s student government, plans campus activities and events, advocates for student rights, and oversees recognition and funding of other student organizations.

The Student Senate helps:

  • Make decisions and implement ideas regarding college policy and student life.
  • Manage a large portion of the money collected from the Student Activity Fee, which is used to fund student organizations and student activities.
  • Oversee clubs and other student organizations.
  • Plan and run activities for the student body.
  • Advocate for the student body on issues that are of concern to students.
